Floral Dog Show – a parody of the more famous and serious horticultural shows.  Come and show off your wormiest apple, lumpiest potato, worst flower arrangement etc.  Diane Renaud and Reid Mclachlan will be our very distinguished judges. 

Meet fellow gardeners – Small tables with structured idea exchange will be set up.

Topic:  Flowering Shrubs

Speaker:  Robert Glendinning, of Friends of the Farm

Robert will talk about the different types of flowering shrubs (Forsythia, Lilac, Rose, Hydrangia, etc), their flowering times, care and how to use them in your gardens.

Seed Swap – this is good time of the year to bring in seeds to swap with other fellow gardeners.

Speaker:  Emilie Potvin, owner of Fleuriste Avant-Garde in Chelsea.

Get some early Xmas ideas!  By popular demand, Emilie will demonstrate how to create lovely holiday arrangements for your tables.    

Bring in your favourite Xmas goody to be shared with all members.

Confused about how to, when to and how much to prune your trees?  Then this is the talk for you as many of our trees in our gardens need to be pruned at some point.  , Glenn will speak about his pruning techniques.

Speaker:  Danielle Schami, owner of Franktown House Flowers.

Danielle will talk about how she started her business in Wakefield of growing over one hundred different types of annual and perennial flowers to be sold at markets and for special occasions such as weddings. She will also give us some tips on producing the best cut flowers.

Topic:  Balancing a Healthy Soil

Speaker: Richard Armitage, Campus Manager of Heritage College

Forget about the “Primary N-P-K Nutrients” and let’s dig deeper into soil health.  Richard Armitage, Campus Manager of Cegep-Heritage College Pontiac Campus, has been teaching soil fertilization and amendments for 20 years.  He will explain some of the mysteries surrounding the importance of ‘Secondary Soil Nutrients’, with the idea of feeding your soil, not your plants.

Tour of Rideau Hall (1 Sussex Drive) and the private gardens

After some negotiating with the NCC, we now have a very special tour of the Government’s Rideau Hall and all its private gardens.  This tour is free to members.  It will be limited to 25 people.  We start at 9 am with a tour of the inside of Rideau Hall and then get a tour of the private gardens outside.

Plant Sale

The Plant Sale is the Club's main fundraiser and a great way to find interesting plants at very reasonable prices. All plants are donated by club members.
